JOIN US TO CELEBRATE CORRANDULLLA SHOW’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY
This year marks a landmark birthday for Corrandulla Show and we hope you can join us in celebrating our 40th year. Firstly we would like to thank you for your continued support, you have helped bring our show from a small community event to one of the biggest agricultural shows in the country which attracts people, young and old, from far and wide.
We are very proud to celebrate 40 years of Corrandulla Show and intend to make it extra special. We began our celebrations with a big Show Dance, featuring Country Music Star Jimmy Buckley on 9th of June, the night was a great success and the huge dance floor was always full. The Show Committee had worked hard to put on a night with a difference and over 800 people gathered to help them do just that. In attendance were some of the Show’s top sponsors – Creaven’s Costcutters, AIB, Kenny Galway, Nutrias, Sweeney Oil, St. Jarleth’s Credit Union & O’Leary Insurances along with IFA President Joe Healy and all the Corrandulla Show Supporters from down through the years.
Each year we endeavour to improve on the last, we now offer a wide variety of food, shopping and entertainment for all the family to enjoy. For our younger visitors we will have a free inflatable village, face painting and a few surprise attractions for them to enjoy. There will be live music throughout the day. The indoor and outdoor country market will also be back to showcase the best of locally produced food and crafts. Our new gymnasium will once again host the “Arts and Crafts” competitions so be sure not miss out on the talent our community and visitors have to offer. We thank Creaven’s Costcutter, Corrandulla who came on board last year to sponsor this section of the show.
The Cattle Showing section of the show continues to grow, with the addition of Friesian Classes this year. Another new addition is the Nutrias Baby Beef Competition which has a prize fund of €1000. While we are sad to announce that we have had to cancel our In Hand Horse classes due to declining numbers in these classes over the years, but we will revisit this area in the years ahead. However we are adding a 4-5 year old class to our Connemara Ridden Section and a new Connemara young handler’s class to the In Hand Connemara Section. In Show Jumping the Kenny Motors sponsored Connacht Grand Prix will be a big attraction, this kicks off at 3pm and is not to be missed. Show Jumping starts at 9am so there will be lots of action in this area throughout the day. Our Pet’s Corner returns, along with our Dog Show and growing poultry section. Back by popular demand this year, is the Donkey Derby, this will be run in the Main Arena before the Grand Prix, at 2.30, it is great fun so be sure not to miss it !!
An event this size would be impossible to run without a large number of volunteers and the support of the local community. The show is a wonderful example of a hugely successful community event, showcasing volunteerism and community spirit at its best. Some of our volunteers have grandparents who worked on the very first show demonstrating the strong family and community spirit we aim to represent.
